Though not a musician, my favourite pastime is going to see live music. My second favourite pastime is talking (also “talking”) at length about it. Hence the blog.
Ever since opera, innit? acquired some readers, Baroque opera/recital performances get the most views. I myself have invested a lot of time and money into witnessing live performances and thus these days this represents the meat and potatoes of my reports here. But I do write about other things as well. The main staple is of course Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, which has its own section, with my thoughts on about 30 live or recorded (CD or DVD) performances so far.
Aside from Tito, currently my other favourite operas are L’incoronazione di Poppea, Alcina, Akhnaten, Ariadne auf Naxos and other operas starting with A 😉 though Bs and Cs are welcome as well, as in the case of Bluebeard’s Castle. I also like Juditha triumphans and Orphee et Eurydice – generally operas featuring (lyric) mezzos and contraltos.
You – gentle reader – are free to nick any screenshots or ideas you might like from my blog. I’m of the opinion that once you put it out there it scarcely belongs to you anymore, especially since I do it for my own amusement and not for the love of gold. Just don’t come back later on and accuse me of nicking whatever it was from you 😉

Wow- a Spring makeover!
yes, been busy for days with it hence little action otherwise. Finally it’s done and I won’t have to think about it for months and months 😉 I hope it doesn’t look too silly, eh heh.
Interesting blog, I have lots to learn from you. My dad loves opera, while I know nothing about it (ish). I’ll definitely follow, hope you’ll follow back. I am as guilty as you of not spending too much time on others’ blog, so will make an effort to do it!

Yes, I could say I love “all” music, but truly it’s mostly rock/metal/opera/electronica.
Funny you should say that, as I do love some electronic stuff, which doesn’t normally go together with rock and metal… I am not an opera fan, I must say, but I do respect it and could do with increasing my knowledge about it.
opera is fun once you get the hang of it (extreme vocals all right). I actually became interested after listening to the more operatic songs by Therion (hence the name).
Yes, it makes sense actually. I like the type of metal that combines classical style, Symphony X being a prime example.

Then I’ll know when to look out for you. Although frankly, given our track record so far, there’s no guarantee I’ll find you…
Oh, and I totally missed the rock / metal thing before. Yay to that. A good bit of AC/DC goes down a treat when doing housework 😉

I just heard 😀 Coote as Vitellia? Interesting! Hope not a weak Sesto. With Guth it’ll be daaaaaaaaaaark and probably quite sexy in a roundabout way.
Apparently Sesto is Kate Lindsey, who I heard as Rosina in Barbiere a few years ago, I liked her, but I had jugded her kind of young sounding.
cheers, she’s sung him in Paris in 2014. She’s, yes, young and rather un-Sesto-ish for my taste – also her coloratura was tentative. But maybe she’s improved. On the upside, at least it’s not Gritskova 😀
